Girl gamers are not (always) home wreckers!

Ok, so here it goes, my first real article. I was chatting with someone the other day, and gaming and being a girl came up. The woman I was speaking with really despises girl gamers, or at least the specific group of girls who use the games to meet men. Apparently her husband had met a female through a game and you can guess where that headed. So I want to try to express to people that not all women who game are out there to take other women’s men! I think this stereotype just like all stereotypes prevents people from trying out something new for fear of being disliked for what they enjoy. Granted, there will always be people who game for finding a love interest. However, I’m pretty sure most of us are here to simply have fun!
Gaming is a great stress relief! In fact my husband and I found it works really well for our marriage! We are doing something together that we both enjoy. AND, we can blow each other up without all those nasty real life consequences!!! We did however find that we work better together if we game as a team as opposed to fighting against each other all the time. Sometimes a little friendly competition is good for the soul, but lots of it can be a problem 
It’s also important to remember that just because you are sitting behind a computer screen miles away from other people, you need to keep your relationship safe. You have NO idea what the other person is doing or even what they are! Men can actually be women, adults can be kids, seemingly nice people can be psychotic! Use common sense. If it feels wrong, it probably is, pay attention to those little red flags! And don’t give out your personal information!!!
So most of this is aimed at someone who’s surfing the net for info on where women fit into the game world or if they even do! I say we absolutely fit in! Where else can you create an alter ego that looks however you want it to look and go save the world while you’re at it?! Have fun, go be adventurous, but at the same time, be responsible and safe!
